It's amazing how many in the media still think it's up to Meta to fork out hundreds of millions in Australia (and billions, globally) to rescue the media industry from continued job losses for journalists and reduction of services.
They really just can't see what the real problem is here, can they.

Oh look, more pessimistic reporting on ONLY the negative aspects of social networks.
If you're looking at any issue from a skewed perspective, you're only going to see one side of the argument.
This is deliberate of those on the left.
They ignore the positive aspects because they far outweigh the negatives.
But that isn't allowed to be said by those on the left because it literally torches their argument, and places their entire war on information through censorship and cancel culture agenda in jeopardy.

This is such a quick and dirty revenue raising exercise by the Australian Government.
This is no longer about providing financial support to the media industry, it's about looking for ways for the Government to raise revenue through blackmailing big tech to pay for its debt-laden expenditures which have done absolutely nothing to improve the overall economy and has sent Australia into the worst cost-of-living crisis in history.
Australia is a waste of time for big tech to bother with and should pull out entirely.

This really does raise a lot of good questions around the ethics of using children to influence social network followers.
It's certainly a gray area, indeed, which requires more attention because the potential for child exploitation and forced labor, under the guise of "kidfluencer", is real.

Finally, we are starting to see signs of a reversal in the censorship mindset and a greater focus on freedom of speech.
While we still have a long way to go, this is a promising development by Meta.
